April 6, 04 - Welcome
My plan to update the website as bloom progressed didn't happen. I was too busy trying to keep up with things that had to be done.

In terms of weather, it was the worst in memory for enjoying the Reticulatas. We had many wet days at peak bloom which severly limited hybridizing, followed by a couple of cold windy days, and then more rain. The one great day was Monday March 25 which I took off work. I took about 600 pictures that day (many were duplicates -- trying to capture the perfect picture of each flower). With predictions of rain for the next 4 days I was hybridizing til midnight using a floodlight.

If the weather had been better I would have taken more days off work. As it turned out I only took one off.

On the 25th it got so warm that I switching into shorts for a few hours. The bees were out also enjoying the weather. So, Unlike the past two years, there will be a lot of bee seed this year.

On the positive side there were a number of spectacular new hybrids.

I don't have a final count yet, but there were just over 100 new sxd hybrids, raising the total to 225.

...darn, more white! Smile
